WITH ONLY A VERY OLD 2X6 AND THESE MY VERY HANDS...
During the remodeling of a local victorian home, here in Ashland, Oregon, I found some pretty tight-grained fir ceiling joists, and decided to make my first guitar with it. I used the fir on the back, sides, soundboard and headstock veneer, and Madrone for the neck. The result was a very complicated mix of overtones that sound pretty good with gypsy jazz, and a wood selection that looks a lot like old framing lumber. It continues to be one of my favorite guitars to play.
